Galetech Energy Services is an Irish multi-disciplinary renewable energy consultancy and services provider. We provide development support, technical advisory, project management & engineering services from project feasibility through to construction and operation.
We combine the expertise of some of the industry’s leading experts in renewable energy. The company’s principals have a combined experience of more than 60 years in international renewable energy markets. The Galetech team draws upon this wealth of experience and resource required to successfully develop and execute wind energy projects.
Meet the Team

GENERAL MANAGER
Donogh o Brien
Donogh spent almost twenty years working in the renewables industry.
He has extensive experience in engineering, project management and investment appraisal of wind energy projects. Previous employment includes ESB International where Donogh was responsible for the engineering and construction of a large number of wind projects on behalf of ESB Wind Developments and private clients.
Donogh holds a bachelor of electrical engineering from University College Cork and post graduate diplomas in project and financial management.

Due Diligence & Contracts Director
Paul Carney
Paul has spent over twenty years working in the energy sector. From his career to date he has extensive experience in planning and executing strategic thermal and wind projects for ESBI Investments and ESB Wind Development both overseas and in Ireland.
Paul’s experience ranges from combined cycle gas turbine and wind farm engineering, project development management, investment appraisal, key agreement negotiations and construction management.
Paul was responsible for developing 250MW of wind energy projects across Ireland and the UK as well as working on the development and construction of over 3GW of thermal power plants across Europe.
Paul holds a bachelor degree in mechanical engineering from University College Dublin and post graduate diplomas in project and financial management.

Business Development Manager
Franco Criscuolo
Franco has held a number of senior management positions in engineering and facilities. His portfolio history has covered industries from hi tech to traditional dairy processing before moving into renewables where he has accumulated over 12 years’ experience developing wind and solar schemes. Franco has project managed and delivered multimillion capex projects at Dell, Banta Global and Dairygold. In the Renewable sector Franco’s portfolio includes: Auto-Production onsite wind generation at Munster Joinery (2 x 2.05 MW), J & J Group Ringaskiddy ( 2 x 3MW), Grady joinery (2.35MW) and numerous Greenfield sites in the UK. Franco has prospected and developed a 20MW ground mount solar scheme and several commercial rooftop solar schemes. Franco’s technical, engineering background will fit perfectly into the Galetech Energy Services and Energypro team and culture. Welcome Franco!

NON EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Darren Sherry
Darren Sherry is a founding Director of Galetech Energy which has interested in numerous renewables related businesses including GES.
Darren in his role as non executive director provides valuable strategic and operational insight which helps guide the development of the business.

ELECTRICAL GRID SPECIALIST
Donal Smith
Donal brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the GES team having worked as grid connection s manager on over 500MW of development and construction projects over the past 12 years with SWS, Bord Gais and Brookfield. Donal is heavily involved in policy development and chairs the Irish Wind Energy Association Grid committee.
Donal holds a masters degree in power systems engineering from Helsinki University of Technology.

PLANNING TEAM MANAGER & PLANNING POLICY SPECIALIST
Gavin Daly
Gavin has nearly twenty years’ experience as planning and environmental consultant working on a wide range of major public and private projects across a variety of sectors.
He formerly worked at a strategic level as special adviser to the Irish government on planning, energy and climate change policy and legislation.
He has worked with GES since 2011 and has advised on successfully bringing a number of major projects through the planning process. He also has a background in academia and also works across Europe on major planning and environmental research projects for the European Commission.
Gavin holds a Degree in Town and Country Planning, University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

SENIOR PLANNER
Simon Carleton
Having studied in two separate planning jurisdictions, Simon has experience in planning applications and submitting appeals to planning decisions in both varying planning systems.
Simon has also worked on projects requiring the completion on Environmental Impact Assessments. Simon previously completed an internship with Monaghan County Council where he worked as part of a team in the formulation of the 2013-2019 Monaghan County Development Plan.
Simon is a qualified Town and Country Planner with qualifications gained in both University College Dublin and Queens University Belfast.

Executive Planner
Declan Owens
Declan has worked as planner for over 10 years in both the private and public sectors across Ireland, both North and South. Declan was heavily involved in renewable energy planning in Northern Ireland since 2010 and was particularly active in the single wind turbine sector there during that time, whilst also working on large scale solar projects in Ireland.
Declan’s role in GES is centred around planning and environmental consenting and compliance, including assuming responsibility for the day to day operational stage environmental management of one of Irelands largest wind farms.
Declan holds Bachelors Degree in Environmental Planning and a Masters in Urban and Rural Design and is a full Corporate Member of the Irish Planning Institute (MIPI).

Development Services Engineer
Joe Buckley
Joe has experience in the UK and Ireland wind, anaerobic digestion and solar energy sectors after having gained a master’s qualification in sustainable energy from University College Dublin.
Joe has experience in identifying potential development sites, project managing early site development and the development of planning applications, with additional experience in the technical aspects of projects.
Joe holds a masters in science in sustainable energy & green technology.

GRID COMPLIANCE & SCADA SPECIALIST
David McCann
He brings a wealth of experience to the GES team, having worked with Airtricity and then SSE since 2007 on development of a centralised monitoring and control system.
More recently, David has implemented and tested fleet wide SCADA solutions for customers and is heavily involved in designing installed, commissioned and tested grid interface equipment on windfarms in Ireland, Northern Ireland and England.
David has gained extensive experience and knowledge in the area of grid code compliance testing for TSO and DSO connected wind farms across Ireland and UK.
David holds an electrical/electronic engineering degree from DIT Kevin St.

Kieran Elliott
Kieran is an experienced manager having worked in construction and finance related sector for the past 15 years. Kieran joined the Galetech team in 2014 and heads up a team of 8 in the met mast division of the business.
